In this glossary, definitions, examples, and images of some concepts related to architecture will be given.

Air-entrained concrete
Air-entrained concrete contains billions of microscopic air cells per cubic foot. These air pockets relieve internal pressure on the concrete by providing tiny chambers for water to expand into when it freezes

Architectural concrete
Architectural concrete refers to concrete that while providing an aesthetic finish to the building also serves a structural function. Decorative concrete typically refers to concrete flatwork or building elements such as panels, that while enhanced with texture or color, are not structural building members.

Asphaltic concrete
Asphalt Concrete is a composite material commonly used in construction of roads, highways, airports, parking lots, and many other types of pavement. It is commonly called simply asphalt or blacktop.

A course is a layer of the same unit running horizontally in a wall. It can also be defined as a continuous row of any masonry unit such as bricks, concrete masonry units (CMU), stone, shingles, tiles, etc.

Cellular concrete
Cellular concrete is a lightweight cement-based material, containing many gas bubbles evenly distributed in the volume, produced by blending and maturing of a mixture of cement, filler, water, agent generating cells.

Colored concrete
Colored concrete, also known as decorative concrete, allows traditional grey concrete to be stained and dyed different colors

Cured concrete
Curing of concrete is defined as providing adequate moisture, temperature, and time to allow the concrete to achieve the desired properties for its intended use.
Example: at the end of the work, we cure the concrete to give greater resistance

Exposed concrete
Exposed concrete refers to concrete whose surface is a visible part of the architectural and interior design of the building.
Example: The monument consists of an exposed concrete slab symbolizing the expansion of construction.

Gravity Load
Gravity loads are body loads available only in Structure. These loads simulate the force of gravity as it affects your model. When you define a gravity load, you specify the gravitational components of the load in each coordinate direction.
Example: we always count in the work the load of gravity at the time of planning the work

Green concrete
Green concrete is defined as a concrete which uses waste material as at least one of its components, or its production process does not lead to environmental destruction, or it has high performance and life cycle sustainability.
Example: we want a natural type cas, to use green concrete in it and give something more alive

Insulating concrete
Insulating concrete form or insulated concrete form (ICF) is a system of formwork for reinforced concrete usually made with a rigid thermal insulation that stays in place as a permanent interior and exterior substrate for walls, floors, and roofs.

Ladder-Type Systems
Ladder system means two main air lines, generally one each side of the railway tracks, cross connected at regular intervals and able to be fed from any direction.

Landmark

Masonry Ties
Wall ties, sometimes called ‘brick ties’, are used in buildings with cavity walls. They are used to join the two leaves of a cavity wall together, allowing the two parts to act as a homogeneous unit. Hidden from view after construction, wall ties play a vital role in ensuring the stability of a building.

Metal cannel
A metal channel is a roll formed metal strip that has been shaped into a tube or a U, J, or C shape for industrial and manufacturing use.
Example: It is used in walls of structures such as garage.

Metal decking is corrugated metal sheeting that's used as a structural roof deck or composite floor deck.
Example: Most often it is covered with concrete to form floor or ceiling slabs.

Structural metal stud framing refers to the construction of walls and planes using cold-formed steel components.
Example: Stadiums, bridges and some monuments are structures made of metal.

Steel Bar Grating. An open grid assembly of metal bars, in which the bearing bars, running in one direction, are spaced by rigid attachment to cross bars
Example: In the streets you can find metal grids, they are placed in spaces so that rainwater drains and the streets are not flooded.

Metal is a hard substance such as iron , steel , gold , or lead.
Example: It can be any type of metal (stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, etc.), it is used in structures and also as coatings.

Metal rods are metals and alloys designed in the pattern of round bars or rod, rectangular or flat bars, square bars, hexagons, and other patterns of bar stock.

Porous concrete
Pervious concrete (also called porous concrete, permeable concrete, no fines concrete and porous pavement) is a special type of concrete with a high porosity used for concrete flatwork applications that allows water from precipitation and other sources to pass directly through, thereby reducing the runoff from a site and allowing groundwater recharge.
Example: use porous concrete for the sidewalks and more if you put color

Precast concrete
Precast concrete is a construction product produced by casting concrete in a reusable mold or "form" which is then cured in a controlled environment, transported to the construction site and lifted into place ("tilt up"). In contrast, cast-in-place concrete is poured into site-specific forms and cured on site

Prestressed concrete
Prestressed concrete is a form of concrete used in construction. It is substantially "prestressed" (compressed) during production, in a manner that strengthens it against tensile forces which will exist when in service

Reinforced concrete
reinforced concrete, concrete in which steel is embedded in such a manner that the two materials act together in resisting forces.
Example: when straining the slab, it can be called, armed ormigon

Relief Angle
A Side Relief Angle is an angle between the part of the flanks of a cutting tool below the cutting edge and a plane perpendicular to the base

In particular, circulation routes are the pathways people take through and around buildings or urban places. Circulation is often thought of as the 'space between the spaces', having a connective function, but it can be much more than that

Steel Angles are the most basic type of roll-formed steel.
Example: They are used in buildings to provide solid frameworks.

A steel column is a vertical structure member used in construction to provide essential support.

Steel framing
it is called Light Steel Framing, to differentiate this system from the Steel Frame, which is a construction technique that uses a skeleton of columns and beams of "heavy" steel profiles called IPN profiles that made and make the construction of skyscrapers possible.

Steel joist
Steel joists are open web lightweight steel trusses consisting of parallel chords and a triangulated web system, proportioned to span between bearing points. There are five main components: a top chord, bottom chord, end web, bearing seat, and interior web members.

Steel member

Steel Plate, or structural steel is simply steel sheet material that can be customarily cut and welded to develop a more elaborate product.
Example: Can be seen in industrial-type structures and surface coatings.

Steel reinforcement are steel bars that are provided in combination with plain cement concrete to make it reinforced concrete.

Steel sections are the bread and butter of steel fabrication. Designers, architects and engineers choose different sections for their aesthetics and structural qualities – their choices determined by size, weight and profile. Steel is extremely versatile and can be moulded to many different shapes.

Urban legibility
Legibility is one of the principles of urban design. Legibility means the possibility of organizing an environment within an imageable and coherent pattern.
Example: the organization of some space and the ease with which it is read is urban legibility

Wedge Anchor
is a generic term for a type of anchor used to fasten a variety of materials to concrete. Some companies have different brand names for their wedge anchors such as Kwik Bolt, Power Stud, and Thunderstud.
